ANALYZING THE FAKE DMCA
This fake DMCA scam is best explained in 2 parts –
PART 1 – Fake DMCAs targeting a Ripoff Report
The perpetrators filed a fake DMCA on July 17, 2014 (impersonating SAGE Journals). The original author of this article is Pam Mueller, a professor at Princeton Univ.
This DMCA was rejected by Google. It’s so fake, really.
Fast forward 3 years, and Hosein Kouros-Mehr attempted the fake DMCA trick once again –
This time, Hosein Kouros-Mehr, PHD if we may add, went full monty and impersonated NYTimes.com and Nature.com. This time, Hosein Kouros-Mehr was successful and Google complied with the legal demands.
PART 2 – The return of Ripoff Report
In 2017, Ripoff Report got one back at these Reputation-Scammers by changing the URL structure of their website. The links which were earlier removed from Google Search, are now back. That’s a setback for Hosein Kouros-Mehr. All the work, the plan, all turned t dust.
He doesn’t give up, and uses his PHD brains to good use and files this new DMCA –
Previously we received DMCA approval for copyright infringement occurring at the following URL (DMCA 5-6792000004216): http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/hosein-kouros-mehr/indianapolis-indiana-46285/hosein-kouros-mehr-works-at-eli-lilly-company-in-indianapolis-eli-lilly-has-a-robber-who-1131682 The URL has changed and now it is appearing in Google search results. We ask that the DMCA be extended to this new URL (see location of infringing material)
That’s rich. However, Webactivism has already informed Google and filed counter-notices to ensure that this does not happen.
It is now left to RipoffReport and other involved parties to investigate this further.
SO WHAT WERE THEY TRYING TO HIDE ?
It is the same old story.Someone has a negative review at Ripoff Report. It ranks high on Google and hurts his reputation as well as professional life.
In all honesty, this complaint looks fake and unsubstantiated.
A good method to resolve this would have been to hire an attorney to file a lawsuit, or run a branding campaign.
There was no reason for Hosein Kouros-Mehr, a PHD Scholar to use a fake DMCA and commit a crime.
WHAT IS A FAKE DMCA AND WHY ARE WE LISTED HERE ?
In case you are one of the ‘beneficiaries’ listed in this report and are wondering what really happened, we suggest you look within. If it wasn’t you, or your associates, it is definitely the ‘Reputation’ or ‘SEO’ firm you have hired in the past. Perhaps even your law firm. So, instead of blaming us for this article, you must grill your Reputation/SEO firm and look for answers. We are merely publishing the facts available on public database and have nothing against you personally. It is more than likely that the service you hired indulged in criminal methods to deliver results for you.
Meanwhile, we are awaiting more information from RipoffReport and Google to ascertain who was behind this fake DMCA. We’ll update this page once we have more information. If you have any information to add to this investigation, get in touch with us at [email protected]
Soon after we published the first set of our investigation reports on fake DMCAs, we managed to generate interest from online media such as Techdirt, Adweek and Huffington Post. Some of the key stories included our revelations on Torrence Boone , MoneyLife.in, Julia Scelfo and aReputation. We also shared unpublished data and information with 3 different law agencies who looked into this scam.
And we got results. We dented this fake DMCA industry and made sure we act as deterrent to the rogue reputation firms indulged in these criminal practices. Here are some of the outcomes and changes we made possible with the help of several other citizen lawyers and agencies –

Fake Fraudulent DMCA might seem inconspicuous, until its you at the receiving end of this crime. This is not a prank. This is not an inconvenience. This is not random. These fake DMCA cases are calculated criminal schemes targeting very specific and rather important information/content. These hitjobs are usually against media, in order to help their clients hide important information from public’s eye, all in the name of Reputation Management. Millions of dollars are spent doing this, and if no one wants to bring this topic to the fore, we will.

We will take constructive steps in order to expose the faces behind this scam, and to try and undo the damages.
